Why calendar syncing still misses the point
A synced calendar may eventually show a practice at 6:00 PM. That is not enough. The family needs to know that practice moved from 7:00 to 6:00, the location changed, and the earlier start creates a conflict with another child’s game.
FA watches the team app and your inbox
- Connect both. Add the team schedule and connect the email account where you receive coach and team messages.
- FA catches what the email changed. When a coach or team parent emails a new time, location, or cancellation that differs from the team app, FA matches it to the existing event.
- FA updates and notifies. “Coach’s email moved practice from 7:00 to 6:00 and changed the location to South Field. FA updated your calendar and notified your family.”
Treat different changes differently
Time or date changed
FA updates the existing event instead of creating a duplicate and shows the old and new time.
Location changed
FA replaces the venue, keeps the previous location in the change history, and checks for new conflicts.
Event cancelled
FA marks the event cancelled and keeps enough history to explain why it disappeared.
Details added
FA adds useful details without calling them schedule changes. A uniform color should not create a false alarm.
Common problems
Every refresh looks like a “change”
FA only flags meaningful changes: date, time, location, or cancellation. Formatting and feed details stay out of the way.
The coach sends a replacement screenshot
Upload it to FA. The app compares it with the current schedule and identifies what was added, moved, cancelled, or unchanged.
Two sources disagree
FA shows the conflict and asks you which source to trust. It does not silently guess.
The calendar changed but nobody noticed
FA sends a household update with the person affected, the old and new details, and the action it took.
If you do this without FA
Keep team notifications on, compare every message with the existing event, and tell the household both the old and new details. Use a live schedule link when available so later team edits can appear.
“What changed this weekend?” should have a real answer.
Ask FA. The message center explains the change and what happened next.
